Lessons Learned from Two Retail Experts
There are several verticals that are continuing to perform well and I was curious about what was influencing their success.
I selected two verticals because one benefited greatly during the pandemic, and continues to build on that success. The other had to do a 180-degree pivot because they were closed for an extended period. The first is Quilts and Fabrics which saw incredible growth as many people chose knitting, quilting and sewing during the pandemic. The other is College Bookstores, which saw campuses close and an even longer period lapse until students finally returned.
I am pleased to have Ken Bankson, who with Paul Erickson built the college bookstore market first for RMSA, and now with Management One.
And a very pleasant return visit from Cathy McKillup as she works with many quilt and fabric stores in North America.
The lessons learned and applied here are not unique to either bookstores or quilt and fabric stores. They can be employed by any indie retailer. I hope you enjoy this conversation and can embed some of these strategies in your business.
